Get a load of Billy's organ

Billy Preston started playing with his organ at a very young age, he worked with Mahalia Jackson when he was only ten, at age 12 he played the young W.C. Handy in the movie "St. Louis Blues" and by the time he was 16 he'd played with Sam Cooke and Little Richard. He cut several solo albums in the 60s but it was his work with four blokes called The Beatles (maybe you've heard of them) that made his name. The Fab Four liked Billy's organ so much they hired him to play with it on "The White Album" "Abbey Road" and "Let It Be" and it was that exposure which finally gave him his big break as a solo artist and led to 70s hits like "Outa-Space" and "Will It Go Round in Circles."
"Let The Music Play" is a rollicking number from his pre-Beatles days. To call this a roof-raising barnstormer would be a major understatement, it kicks off with a big fat Hammond organ riff and never stops jumping with wild abandon. I imagine this must have caused many a sweaty mohair suit among the Mods at The Flamingo Club back in the day, it's the sort of record that should come with a label that says "Warning: May Cause You To Dance Like A Crazy Person." This was originally on his 1967 album "Club Meeting" which has been re-issued on a two-fer CD with his previous album "The Wildest Organ in Town!" For those who want even more of Billy's organ, Billy's Bag collects together more of his early 60s work.
Right, I'll stop with the organ jokes now.

That man sure knows how to swing that organ. Thanks Lee!
Have you seen Stevie Wonder's new piano then?

Great tune! This is probably my favorite Billy Preston 45. The flip side is a nice version of 'Sunny'.
I was going to mention that but one discography I read said that 'Sunny' was the A-side and I wasn't sure who to believe.
I recorded it from an another old compilation album I have.
Thanks Lee. Another great posting.
Billy Preston did this song again on one of his mid-70s albums - can't remember which one - but it's nothing like as good as this version.
Great post...really enjoy the tune, as always. Thanks!
