Call 1-800 Lorraine

Lorraine Ellison's 1966 hit "Stay With Me" was such an massive emotional and musical tsunami of a record it probably washed away the rest of her career. No way could she top that and it's about the only song she's remembered for. She did make some other fine records though like "Call Me Anytime You Need Some Lovin'" which she also cut in '66. I always assumed this was produced by Jerry Ragavoy as it has the same huge orchestration he brought to "Stay With Me" (and all his other productions) but it's actually the work of the great Lou Courtney who also wrote it. The song itself is fairly standard girly pop-soul but the production is fabulous, especially when the orchestra kicks in right after the title refrain the damn thing takes off into outer space.

Lorraine isn't very well served on the compilation and reissue front, the one collection "Stay With Me: The Best of Lorraine Ellison" is out of print now, but it looks like her original 1966 "Stay With Me" album is about to be reissued so that's a start.

Thanks.

Did Jerry arrange it too? That orchestra is hotter than July and those hand claps... yup this is official.

I'm pretty late to the party, but any chance of getting this re-upped? Hot orchestra + handclaps sounds like a winner.

thanks~!
