I discovered aspidistras by accident when my grandfather was telling me about a Gracie Fields song (The biggest aspidistra in the world) which eventually led me to reading Orwell's "Keep the aspidistra flying". I loved it and I am now the proud owner of an aspidistra. It isn't on a what-not in the hall (although there is one in the family)but it does make me smile whenever I walk past it!
