Poppiness

This isn't really part of the "brief" here either but this new single makes me so damn happy I could skip, and Lord knows I've needed things to make me smile lately. Poppy and The Jezebels aren't some manufactured pretty pop puppets but a proper band who sound like an indie Bananarama produced by Joe Meek. It's enough to restore your faith in pop music.

If you're thinking "Christ, I must be getting old because they look young enough to still be at school" — you're not because they are. All four of them go to a Comprehensive in Birmingham but they've already released several singles and a mini-album. Kids today, eh?
As a bonus here's a rather lovely acoustic version of the same song.

Great band, not heard this song tho.
Are they still at school? that was being said a few years ago, prob all in sixth form or college by now!
Definitely get their Mini Album, it's a good un.
How do you keep your musical ear so close to the ground Lee?
Like your Meekly Bananarama description. A bit Strawberry Switchblade too perhaps. Great band name. (Poppy is presumably a good girl).
Bit fashionably cockerney rather than, ahem, welcome nasal Brummy tones. I suppose The Pipettes are old hat now?
I have the album, love it. Thought this track is much more professional sounding.
I thought The Pipettes split up, I'm sure their lead singer went solo or something. Shame, that album got a lot of play round my way.
Pipettes are still together as a concept -- just with two new girls last time I checked. Gwenno (the "lead" singer) is the only holdover from the trio that recorded the album, though she wasn't an original member either.
Please continue to circumnavigate the brief. This is great !
