Picture Post

The caption for this picture says “House party — Chelsea, London UK circa 1952″ but other than that I have no idea what is going on here. Just your typical arty Chelsea bohemians I guess, from the days when “bohemians” could afford to live in Chelsea.

I went to some pretty wild parties when I was at art college but I think I always managed to keep my trousers on. Well, apart from that one time…

I suppose I should hate you, i only recently found you site and I enjoyed it so much I have gone back to the beginning and am trying to read all the posts, I am also posting comments which is pointless for two year old posts but hey ho!
Anyway, why should I hate you? well, because you have made me realise I should also have a music blog, so, i have started one, i do not claim it will be as good as your but you are the acorn for my little oak.
    Keep up the great work.

Thanks, but especially thanks for re-awakening some amazing old memories.
I have only reached Jan 2008 on this site so far, but so many memories. Jenny Agutter, Noosha Fox and Kate Bush to name but three and then there are the musical memories as well.

.. well, apart from that one time..

    ha! ha!

  6. Artog says:

I personally have never been to a bohemian party c.1952, but I know a man who has.

  7. Gabby says:

that was ME i recognise my knickers, still got em kept for special occasions, the guy holding me was..no i better not say. not all the parties in 52 were like that – some got really louche.

  8. londonlee says:

I'm afraid I'm going to need proof of that Gabby, in the shape of more photos of you in the knickers.

  9. Gabby says:

now where did i put that polaroid camera?
    alternatively you could read
'a blues for shindig'a no knickers look at soho in the 50s.
