Mouth Almighty

Inspired by today’s post at The Vinyl Villain I had the urge to serve up some vintage Wah! Heat. Leader Pete Wylie might not be as well known as fellow Liverpudlians (and, briefly, fellow band members) Julian Cope and Ian McCulloch but at his best Wah! were more than a match for them.

This is both sides of their 1979 debut single. Not everything I heard on John Peel way back then still lights my fire today but these do.

And, what the hell, here’s a storming track from their terrific 1981 debut album Nah+Pooh-The Art of Bluff — I still have no idea what that means, those wacky Scousers!

No one has got anything to say about Pete Wylie. Shame.

A legend and a great guy! I said a lot in comment on The Villian’s post, but I had the honor to get pissed nightly with him in the mid 80′s in NYC. It was like having my own personal rock star that summer and one that could have been my lifelong mate as much as one of my musical hero’s.

  3. Awesome thank you Lee, love Wah! Wah! Heat, Shambeko Say Wah etc etc – I still have on my computer all the chit chat between Peel and Wylie from when he guested on the Peel show, such entertaining stuff

    Loved Wah.

Love the fact that recent pictures of him indicate that Pete Wylie could now be George Galloway’s twin.

    Gorgeous Pete.

/Very/ late with this, I missed your site move.

I had to go out of a branch of W.H.Smiths a few years ago, because they were playing “Story Of The Blues” from an 80s compilation, and I was embarrassingly overcome with middle-aged nostalgia.
