On His Way To A Better Place

Don’t know how I didn’t hear about this before but, man, I’m gutted to find out that General Johnson died last week. Chairmen of The Board were one the great soul bands of the 70s and one of the most underrated (as was their label Invictus with that crisp soul-funk sound they had) and where would Kevin Rowland be without Johnson’s pleading voice and that brrrrrrrrrrrppppp sound he made?

Only one song I can post today.

Thanks for the post and notice of General Johnson’s passing. One of the great underrated soul singers of all time. I was just listening to one of my favorite tracks, “So Glad You’re Mine” from the album Bittersweet (’72). Another highlight of the General’s was the duet he sang with Joey Ramone of the Ramone’s classic “Rockaway Beach” (from Godchildren of Soul: Anyone Can Join). Really appreciated your fitting tribute and great photo. One million thanks.
