What with Bowie, The Associates and now Robert Fripp he does seem to have a taste for my more avant garde records.
I was never all that keen on Fripp’s Exposure album which I think I only bought (and kept) because I liked the cover. But it does have some nice moments on it like this which I think is better than the version on Gabriel’s first solo album (and has Brian Eno playing synth on it to boot).

Never cared much for it either–but there’s a tiny bit of it used a couple of times in Chris Petit’s film Radio On–which of course is wonderful… Britain looking like East Germany; pre-tourist-zombie Camden; perfect deployment of Bowie’s “Heroes” at the start; plus Kraftwerk and more to relish further on.
How on earth do you get him NOT to let the vinyl drop out of the sleeve??!! I did a similar series called ‘Little Loser’s Lottery’ on Sexyloser, but have withdrawn from doing it, because the little sunshine nearly destroyed each and every record he grabbed! His taste was great though, I must admit. Who knows, perhaps one of these days – when he’s a bit older (21 or so!) – I’ll have another go at it …
It’s a weird, uneven record, to be sure, but its highlights (the Gabriel track, the title track) are standouts, and it’s a key part of my late ’70s soundtrack.
I prefer Gabriel’s second solo album for ‘Frippertronics’
And I do have to keep a close eye on the records when he’s yanking them out. No accidents so far.
