At the moment, in the UK on BBC4 each week they are showing a complete episode of Top of the Pops from 1976 (the year the BBC stopped wiping the tapes). It’s fascinating seeing a complete episode with cheesey DJ links, obscure acts in context. No wonder punk came along, each episode is so lightweight that in last weeks episode Cliff Richard was the most rockin’ act! Seriously.

Dubya oh..oh…oh… One Time. Very good!
Ref the credits, how did the TOTP camerman get away with THAT?

Excellent blog you’ve got here sir.

  4. Jeez, just how big was reggae in the UK in the ’70s – this charted? Can’t even imagine such a thing over here at the same time. I mean, it’s wicked cool – esp. the bassist in the grass skirt.

More than charted, it got to number one.
