Thing is, she has a very 1940s face – she looks a little like my Mum did then, from pictures (she was born a just year after her) – but then, in those scenes from the ‘other’ film can look…well…
She looked great in The Small Back Room

A truly fantastic film… “We are starved of Technicolour…”
She is pretty creepy in Black Narcissus. And what a surprise to see her popping up in Saving Private Ryan. Nice of Spielberg to give her a role – he must have been a fan!
I’m sure I’ve mentioned that my Great Uncle was in Black Narcissus and Small Back Room before. He was also in another Powell & Pressburger film ‘Gone to Earth’
