Lucky Dip

Though this made the Top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic in 1970 I still think it’s something of an unknown gem. Written and produced by Smokey Robinson and Frank Wilson, it’s more laid back than The Tops’ usual shouty passion and is utterly gorgeous.

  1. I had the privilege (for that’s what it was) of seeing The (original) Four Tops at Edinburgh Playhouse back around the time of “Loco In Acapulco” – backed by the Motown house band, who performed a 45 minute set before Levi Stubbs & Co took the stage. From then on, it was just hit after hit after hit and before the end of the show, the entire crowd was on its feet, dancing where they stood or dancing in the aisles. One of those gigs that is pure joy from start to finish.
