Something for Le Weekend

All the recent hoo-hah over the 50th anniversary of the release of “Love Me Do” made me wonder with dread how many similar celebrations we’re in for over the next few years and how utterly sick we’ll be of it by the time they get to the 50th anniversary of “Let It Be.”

While it didn’t cause quite so much commentary, this week (Tuesday in fact) marked the 50th anniversary of the first broadcast of this song on French television (during election coverage apparently) which made it a huge hit and Francoise a big star. I think that’s worth celebrating, don’t you?

Any excuse to post this magnifique video.

Commercial Break

Is it just me or does “unfasten your seat belts, lolly lickers!” sound a bit rude?

Still recovering and playing catch-up after the birthday festivities which went on for a few days and involved food, drink, presents, cake, bowling, more drink, and surprise guests from London and New York.

Didn’t get a Zoom ice lolly though, but you can’t have everything.

Mopey Monday

Bill Fay’s first solo album is like the Sgt. Pepper of Mope.

Pretty good little beat combo this lot.

Magnificent. I believe Eddy Grant is the chap in orange.

Something for the Weekend

This song used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. Test tube babies! Withered limbs! Judgement Day! It was nothing like the future I saw on Thunderbirds.

I picked up an old Zager & Evans album on vinyl a few years ago just for this track but my God the rest of it was rubbish, a horrible Folky-Psychedelic stew with social commentary lyrics that would embarrass your average pretentious Sixth Former. This is still a great record though, silly though it might be.

What’s it all about?

The sentimental musings of an ageing expat in words, music, and pictures. Mp3 files are up for a limited time so drink them while they're hot. Contact me: lee at londonlee dot com
