This terrific short film called The Girl Chewing Gum was made in 1976 by the artist John Smith (surely not his real name). It takes a minute for the “joke” to sink in but once it does it’s wonderful to watch, well worth sticking with to the end.
There must a be a million great jokes that could go with this picture but for the life of me I can’t think of one. Maybe I’m just not enough of a Doctor Who anorak.
So what do you think? A gold-plated No-Prize to the best one (the kids call this crowdsourcing you know.)

Watching this I keep thinking that surely at some point the Top of The Pops cameraman will move way and focus on someone else. But no, he stays right where he is for the whole song with the camera ending up almost inside her top. The screen goes black for a second at one point which may have been caused by the cameraman fighting off the floor manager who was desperately trying to get him to zoom out. This might be the real reason “Sugar Sugar” got to Number One.
